Our Story

Perera Crowther was founded by Sam Perera and Josh Crowther in 2005, before gradually diverging into separate financial advice and lending businesses.

Under the leadership of Sam Perera, Perera Crowther Financial Services has evolved into a multi-disciplinary financial advice company encompassing superannuation planning, risk advice and financial planning for corporations and individuals.

We are proud to play a leadership role in the community and the financial advice industry. As highly active members of the Association of Financial Advisors, we advocate for consumer protection and a healthy and fair relationship between the finance/insurance commmunity and our clients.

Sam Perera

Director and Financial Adviser

As a co-founder of Perera Crowther Financial Services, Sam plays a central role in
shaping our firm’s strategic financial advice, with a primary focus on risk management.
Through a comprehensive understanding of our clients’ needs and preferences,
particularly in navigating unforeseen health challenges, Sam leverages his extensive
experience and market insights to customise insurance solutions for both individuals
and businesses under our guidance. With a track record of delivering trusted advice,
Sam has served a diverse clientele, including prominent figures in sectors such as
medicine and law, earning recognition for his expertise and dedication to client
satisfaction.

In addition to his role at Perera Crowther, Sam co-founded Econ Insurance Services, a
subsidiary of Economos Chartered Accountants, recognised as an AFR Top 100
Accounting firm. Since establishing his business in 2005, Sam has leveraged his
extensive experience to contribute meaningfully to the financial services industry,
particularly through his involvement in regulatory reform efforts. He has authored
papers and actively participated in lobbying endeavours concerning critical initiatives
such as the Future of Financial Advice reforms and the Life Insurance Framework.

Sam’s expertise has garnered recognition from parliamentary committees, where he has
offered testimony before prominent bodies including the House Standing Committee on
Economics, the Senate Economics Committee, and the Parliamentary Joint Committee
on Corporations and Financial Services. Noteworthy is Sam’s tenure as the National
President of the Association of Financial Advisers (AFA), during which he spearheaded
the merging of the AFA with the Financial Planning Association (Australia) into what is
now known as the Financial Advice Association of Australia (FAAA), the largest
professional Association of Financial Advisers in Australia. Throughout his tenure, Sam
demonstrated unwavering advocacy and dedication to advancing the Quality of Advice
Review proposals, underscoring his commitment to improving the accessibility and
affordability of financial advice in Australia.

Kristen Agius

Financial Adviser

Kristen embarked on her journey with Perera Crowther Financial Services in 2016 while
completing her Bachelor of Commerce degree in Wollongong. Since then, she has
seamlessly integrated into our team, assuming a pivotal role in shaping client
strategies, conducting meticulous research, and delivering comprehensive reports.

Leveraging her technical acumen and analytical skills, Kristen adeptly formulates and
presents tailored advice, empowering clients to realise and safeguard their financial
aspirations. Her expertise spans across various domains, encompassing life, key
person, disability, and group insurance solutions.

Beyond her professional commitments, Kristen is an active leader within her local
hockey club, where she not only demonstrates her prowess as a competitive player but
also engages in committee work, using her leadership abilities. Kristen’s dedication to
community service is further exemplified through her recent involvement in the RAISE
program, where she mentored high school students, underscoring her belief in the
significance of service and volunteering.

Kristen’s unwavering commitment to excellence, coupled with her strong ethical
principles, has solidified her position as a senior figure within our team. In her capacity
as Sam’s deputy, Kristen leads our team and drives the success of our business,
embodying our shared values and vision.

Janelle Chuter

Operations Manager

As a cornerstone of our firm’s enduring client relationships, Janelle brings over two
decades of invaluable experience in financial services to our team. She plays a pivotal
role in supporting Sam and our entire team across all facets of business management,
including finance, personnel, culture, compliance, and training initiatives.

With a background in judicial operations preceding her tenure in the financial services
sector, Janelle leverages her comprehensive knowledge to ensure the seamless
functioning of Perera Crowther Financial Services. This enables Sam to devote his
attention to client needs and steer the strategic course of our business.

Janelle is the primary liaison for claims management within our business and uses her
expertise to provide invaluable support and guidance to our clients, particularly during
challenging times, ensuring seamless resolution of their insurance claims. Acting as a
steadfast advocate, she bridges the gap between our clients and insurers, alleviating
pressure and safeguarding their interests.

Beyond her professional endeavours, Janelle is an avid reader, enjoys scrapbooking and
puzzles and anything in the great outdoors. Above all, she cherishes quality time spent
with her family and friends and is always planning the next getaway.

Matt Wurth

Implementation Leader

A cornerstone of our team, Matt brings over 16 years of invaluable experience in the
financial services sector to his role. At the heart of his responsibilities lies the pivotal
task of liaising with our clients to gather essential information necessary for the
underwriting process, facilitating their journey towards insurance coverage. Through
collaboration with stakeholders, Matt navigates the intricacies of underwriting,
negotiating favourable terms to seamlessly implement insurance programs for our
clients. His expertise extends to managing the annual renewal of insurance programs
for our corporate clients, ensuring continuity and satisfaction.

Throughout his career, Matt has cultivated an extensive network and fostered invaluable
relationships within the insurance industry, earning widespread respect for his
competence, reliability, and amiable demeanour. Committed to delivering exceptional
client experiences, Matt infuses our team with a sense of camaraderie and enjoyment.

Beyond our office, Matt finds fulfilment as a dedicated father to a young family. He
relishes moments spent cooking and socialising with friends and family.

Margie Janouschek

Client Services Leader

With almost 14 years of tenure, Margie brings a depth of expertise to her role within our
team, cultivated from her background in the banking sector. Her invaluable experience
drives her oversight of our ongoing review program, ensuring our clients remain abreast
of developments in the insurance programs we administer on their behalf.

Margie’s proactive approach includes coordinating reviews with the Advisers in our business,
demonstrating her commitment to maintaining the highest standards of service and
satisfaction for our clientele. Margie has built enduring relationships with many of our
clients, a testament to her dedication and diligent service.

Beyond her professional pursuits, Margie channels her passion for fitness and wellness
into her personal life, engaging in activities like dancing and yoga to foster a balanced
and healthy lifestyle. Her devotion extends to her family and, an avid traveller, Margie
embraces opportunities to explore new destinations and adventures.

Heide Bagano

Client Services Leader

One of our hidden gems, Heide is an integral team member whose focus is serving our
clients with their policy administration and service requests. Heide also works hand in
hand with Margie, ensuring our clients remain abreast of the insurance programs we
administer on their behalf. Heide brings several years experience to her role and uses
her problem solving skills, attention to detail and initiative to ensure efficient operation of
our business.

Heide has a zest for life and her list of interests and activities outside of work is long and
varied. Heide enjoys cooking and tasting different cuisines and also loves to walk, visit
the beach, joyride motorcycles and read romance novels. Heide values time spent with
her husband and their 6 dogs and says that travel excites her soul.

Caimin Conroy

Project Coordinator/Analyst

Caimin commenced his tenure at Perera Crowther Financial Services in 2023 while
pursuing concurrent degrees in Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Science
(Psychology) at UNSW.

Caimin plays a pivotal role in business management, focusing on the aggregation and
analysis of key metrics aimed at enhancing our operational efficiency and client service
standards. He is acquiring proficiency in devising client strategies and assumes a
leadership role in the execution of specialised projects within the team.

Beyond his professional and study commitments, Caimin channels a passion for soccer
through coaching and is dedicated to nurturing the potential of his teams. He also loves
to play the sport himself and is an ardent supporter of Manchester United.

Reina Tahadlangit

Planning Analyst

Reina, a dedicated and industrious member of our team, assumes responsibility for
composing advisory documents for clients, along with conducting research and
analysis to underpin the strategies and recommendations integral to our consulting
services. Reina obtained her education at the University of San Jose, earning a Bachelor
of Science degree with a focus on Management Accounting.

Beyond her professional endeavours, Reina harbours a passion for the arts and finds joy
in culinary pursuits.

Sam is pro-active in managing the insurance design of our superannuation plan, and instrumental in the addition of Income Protection to the benefit design to ensure that our full-time employees are protected
